Briercliffe Soldier Wounded
Mrs. Buck, of 6, Back Halifax-road, Briercliffe, has received a field card
stating that her son, Private Harry Buck, has been wounded while fighting
in France with the 8th East Lancs. Regiment. Private Buck was at one time
engaged at the Queen-street Mill in the warehouse, but more recently
assisted his brother, F.M. Buck with the coal carting business. He has been
a considerable time in France.

HAGGATE WIDOWER KILLED

Mrs. Buck, of 6, Back Halifax-road,
Haggate, has received official intimation of
the death from wounds in France, on October
15th, of her son, Pte. Harry Buck, 43583, of
the North Staffordshire Regt.  The deceased
was a widower with one child, and he was
formerly carter for his brother, Mr. F. M.
Buck, Haggate, and 33 years of age.  Pte. H.
Buck enlisted at the beginning of the war in
the 8th East Lancashire Regt., and when he
returned to the front after leave on September

24 last -- three weeks before his death -- he had
been on active service three years and two
months.  He had been once wounded before,
and was transferred to the North Staffordshire
Regt. about eight months ago.  There is one
brother, William, serving with the Cheshires
in France; whilst a brother-in-law, Christopher
Latham, has just been discharged from
hospital after being wounded.  Another
brother-in-law, Lce.-Corpl. F. Cooper, has been
three years in the Army on home service.
